Old Red Lion Theatre – SHAKEFEST

This Summer the Old Red Lion is hosting SHAKEFEST as part of the Camden Fringe - a festival celebrating the life and works of William Shakespeare. We are looking for any shows relating to the Bard of Stratford-Upon-Avon, from innovative productions to bold re-imaginings, original scripts based on his characters, his worlds or the man himself and those around him - welcoming all forms of theatre from cabarets to improvisation!
Since opening in 1979, this intimate & unique theatre above a lively pub has become one of the most popular and beloved Off-West End venues in London. Our mission is to nurture the very best in emerging theatrical talent both on and off the stage.
The seating is unreserved in our L-shaped auditorium of cushioned wooden pews, providing entirely unobstructed views of our deep set and flexible stage area. Two doors along the back wall provide access to limited off-stage run and the tech desk is neatly tucked away by the entrance.
We were the home of Mischief Theatre's debut run of the Olivier award-winning 'The Play That Goes Wrong' and the premier of Arthur Miller's first ever play 'No Villain' before both productions transferred to the West End. Other esteemed artists who have worked in our space include Kathy Burke, Nina Raine, Joe Penhall, Olly Alexander & Abi Morgan.
In recent years the theatre has continued to welcome companies from around the world despite the many difficulties faced by arts venues across the country. We strive to fly the flag for small scale shows with big ambition.
