Second Hand Problems

Junction Theatre

Second Hand Problems explores different types of limbo in predominantly female spaces. Three episodes linked together by the female experience and the space they are set in, which changes over time - from a charity shop in 2020, through an abortions clinic in 2005 to a family house basement in 1985. The play explores motherhood, sisterhood, coming of age, coercion, LGBTQ matters, femicide and atonement.
In the first episode two women meet by the bargain box and discover they're dead through nefarious acts. Their only hope of retribution is a phone that can still call the living. Will they be able to escape this second-hand limbo to find peace?
In the second episode, a dead mother appears right when her daughter contemplates abortion, revealing a dark secret.
The third episode explores how families cope with the secret queer past of loved ones who passed away.
With honesty and macabre comedy (oh yes things get wacky at times!) Second Hand Problems taps into moments of joy and grief shared in sisterhood. Tied together, these stories highlight how women can help each other through life’s darkest moments.
