Jarman in Pieces
Project Adorno
Filmmaker, painter, gay rights activist, author, gardener - Derek Jarman packed many roles into a short life. Over thirty years from his death, his standing has never been higher. And yet he remains a contradictory figure: For decades, he was a thorn in the establishment’s side and yet is now dangerously close to something he would have hated – the status of national treasure.
Jarman In Pieces was first performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has been performed at LGBT festivals around the country. It is a cubist biography with themes comprising pop culture through LGBT perspectives, 1980s political issues including AIDS and gay rights, reflections from Jarman's acolytes and friends - all expressed through new and original songs, poetry and audio-visuals inspired by Jarman's life, films, art and writing.
