Fat, Black and Single

Venus Ashu

"100 quid to the first person to name any play, where the hero falls in love with a chunky black woman."

Venus is an English and Drama student at Trenton University who knows the social food chain all too well. In a town where the residents think bell peppers are "too spicy," she’s spent two years feeling like a background character watching others in the limelight. But with the end of year play auditions looming, Venus is tired of being the ensemble with no lines. She wants to be the romantic lead.

The only problem? She’s fat, she’s black, and she still gets giggly when she sees topless men, never mind actually dating one!

From the creator of the viral pilot Fat, Black and Single (200k+ views and winner of the 2024 UAL Graduate Award), comes a brand new prequel about the courage it takes to stop letting society decide the outcome of your story...

Expect a hysterical and heart driven look at the Black British university experience, packed with the same sharp, sarcastic humour that made the original pilot a social media sensation. It’s a warm, witty love letter to the underdogs, the late-bloomers, and anyone who has ever wondered if they’re allowed to be the main character.

Come and find out what happens when the girl at the bottom of the food chain decides she’s finally hungry for the lead role.
