All My Friends are in Australia

Pinstripe Productions

How do we cope with distance from what we know and from the people who shaped us?

You are now Trudy’s new friends, whether you like her or not. Together, we will enter Trudy’s vibrant, oddly personal, and, at times unsettling, hybrid yoga/spin-class meets karaoke-nightclub extravaganza! Down under, Gráinne’s surfing the waves with kangaroos and a mojito in hand... in a supermarket stockroom? Meanwhile, we are left behind with Trudy in Dublin, where they both grew up. Feeling like she’s finally escaped Ireland, Gráinne wonders whether anyone will ever learn to pronounce her name correctly or if ‘finding herself’ means going by ‘Granny’ from now on. Trudy and Gráinne are best friends. They just haven’t spoken in a while, is all.

With Irish emigration on the rise, many young people grapple with a dilemma: should you stay in the familiar or venture into the unknown? The internal conflict of choosing between the comfortable and new experiences weighs heavily on the minds of many. Ultimately, the play poses the question: what are the consequences of choosing either path? This show is not only colourful and hilarious but also a response to the lack of opportunity for young people, resulting in emigration.
